All attendees, sponsors, partners, collaborators, volunteers, and staff at our hackathon are required to comply with the following code of conduct, rules, and regulations. Organizers and the University will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect full cooperation from all participants to ensure a safe and fun environment for everybody.



Our hackathon is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, previous hackathon attendance or computing experience (or lack of any of the aforementioned). We do not tolerate harassment of hackathon participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any hackathon venue, including hacks, talks, workshops, parties, social media, slack workspace activity and any other online media. Hackathon participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the hackathon at the discretion of the hackathon organizers.


Time & Place 

Participants can get started on the hackathon once the event commences on Jan 15th, 2021, and hacking ends at 7pm EST on Jan 22, 2021. Our hackathon does not require you to be in any particular physical space for the entire duration, and we actually encourage you to work 100% remotely with your teams (participants are required to follow the social distancing guidelines in their local communities).  Because of the remote nature of this hackathon, participants will be using the hackathon’s Slack workspace and Zoom broadcast as the places to communicate with fellow participants, mentors, judges, and the event organizers. We are not responsible for you in whichever physical or virtual space you chose to participate this event in, whether it is your home, a place of work, a community center, a university campus, Slack workspace, Zoom sessions, etc. 


By acknowledging this form you hereby release and agree to indemnify and hold harmless Stevens Institute of Technology and its Employees, Officers, Affiliates, Partners, Sponsors, Collaborators, Event Organizers, Judges, Agents and Advertising Agencies from all liability in connection with this hackathon, including but not limited to indirect, special, consequential or punitive damages in connection with this hackathon.



We encourage teams to be anywhere from 2 to 10 people, but if a team wants to be larger, please seek approval from one of the organizers. We encourage teams to be a mix of students and professionals. A variety of experiences can bring interesting and innovative mindsets to the hackathon space. Once a team is created we require it to be listed on the hackathon’s ideas google sheet. This will allow the Mentors, Judges, and Organizers to keep track of all of the teams. Each team is required to have a “Team Founder” who will be the main point of contact between the Organizers and the Team. In addition, each team member must list their slack username for the hackathon Slack workspace on the sheet and a brief description of their idea. The Hackathon Organizers reserve the right to change this team forming process and its requirements at any time before or during the event. If the team forming process is changed, the participants and team founders will be notified via a message in either the Slack Workspace, email or via a Zoom Conference. 


Code, Design, and Art

To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code, designs and art must be created within the duration of the hackathon. We want to ensure that all participants start off on the same footing and we also want to preserve the true nature of a hackathon. The only exception to this rule would include material that is publicly available. Some examples of this would be: public domain images, creative commons music, and open source libraries with appropriate attribution to the original creators. We take this rule very seriously for the sake of all members attending the event. Failure to comply may result in the offending teams and participants’ disqualification, expulsion and or disbanding.


APIs, Services, and Open Source

The exception to the above rule is that you are encouraged to use 3rd party services, APIs, open-source projects, libraries, and frameworks, etc.


Submission Requirements

Teams are required to submit all material pertaining to the project on Devpost. The Devpost submission link will be provided during the event. Since this is a remote hackathon, the submission is required to include the final video presentation. This is the submission that will be assessed by the judges. This video may be submitted as a file or via a publically accessible video share link (like Youtube or Vimeo). The submission also includes but is not limited to: source code, design assets, links to live projects. Projects that blatantly disregard the proposed theme may be ineligible for judging at the discretion of the organizers. All projects must be submitted by 7pm EST on Jan 22, 2021. Presentations are required to be eligible for prizes and must meet the length and other specifications set by the organizers. More information about the final video presentation will be discussed during the event orientation. 


Winners & Prizes

Winners will be judged based on their project’s solution to the proposed hackathon challenge: to build solutions to help people safely return to the new normal. Three winners will be announced on January 24th via Slack, email, and/or the hackathon website. Only teams that complete a pitch and submit all materials on Devpost by the deadline will be eligible for prizes. All prizes are non-transferable.


Ownership & Intellectual Property 

All teams retain full ownership of what they have created during the hackathon. We retain the right to display what you build for the purpose of advertisement. This includes all types of media, both print and not. 


Press Release

By being here, you consent to and authorize the use and reproduction by Stevens Institute of Technology and its Employees, Officers, Affiliates, Partners, Sponsors, Collaborators Event Organizers, Judges, Agents and Advertising Agencies of any and all photography and/or videography that may be taken of you throughout the duration of the hackathon for any purpose, without compensation to you. All digital images and/or video files are wholly owned by the Stevens Institute of Technology, who reserves the right to use these images and/or videos.


Be Awesome & Have Fun

Hack, meet new people, get creative, and have a good time. Getting something meaningful done within such a short amount of time can be stressful, but we'd like to encourage everyone to take a break every now and then to relax and enjoy the event.


Virtual Acknowledgement

In order to participate in our Hoboken Climate Hackathon Series, it is required that this code of conduct be acknowledged in the form used to sign up for the event. You will NOT be able to participate if you do not agree to this document while signing up.

In the case of an unforeseen action, behavior, or event, the Hackathon Organizers and The Stevens Venture Center reserve the right to disband, expel and or disqualify any team or any participant at any time for any reason whatsoever.
